COVID-19 UPDATE: January 7

On January 7, Alberta Health Services confirmed 968 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 108,469.

24 people passed away, which means 1,217 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 7,834 cases of COVID-19 and 73 people have passed away.

There are currently 1,384 active cases in our zone with 130 in Big Lakes County, 70 in the MD of Peace, 65 in Northern Sunrise County, 42 in the MD of Greenview, 19 in Mackenzie County, six in the MD of Smoky River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 93,954 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 13,298 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete
  • Peace River Correctional Facility

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
