COVID-19 UPDATE: January 20

On January 20, Alberta Health Services confirmed 669 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 118,436.

21 people passed away, which means 1,484 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 9,381 cases of COVID-19 and 91 people have passed away, including one person in the most recent update.

There are currently 1,411 active cases in our zone with 119 in Big Lakes County, 81 in the MD of Greenview, 62 in the MD of Peace, 36 in Northern Sunrise County, 23 in Mackenzie County, six in the MD of Smoky River while all other jurisdictions in our area have two or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 106,387 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 10,565 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • High Prairie Health Complex
  • Peace River Correctional Centre

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
