COVID-19 UPDATE: January 18

On January 18, Alberta Health Services confirmed 474 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 117,311.

11 people passed away, which means 1,447 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 9,237 cases of COVID-19 and 88 people have passed away.

There are currently 1,636 active cases in our zone with 144 in Big Lakes County, 96 in the MD of Greenview, 80 in the MD of Peace, 48 in Northern Sunrise County, 37 in Mackenzie County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have two or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 103,941 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 11,923 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete
  • High Prairie Health Complex
  • Peace River Correctional Facility
  • Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, McLennan

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
