COVID-19 UPDATE: January 12

On January 12, Alberta Health Services confirmed 652 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 112,743.

38 people passed away, which means 1,345 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 8,494 cases of COVID-19 and 79 people have passed away, including two people in the latest update.

There are currently 1,636 active cases in our zone with 151 in Big Lakes County, 89 in the MD of Peace, 77 in the MD of Greenview, 64 in Northern Sunrise County,  28 in Mackenzie County, five in the MD of Spirit River and Saddle Hills County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 98,178 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 13,220 active cases across Alerta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete
  • High Prairie Health Complex
  • Peace River Correctional Facility
  • Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, McLennan

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
