COVID-19 UPDATE: February 24

On February 24, Alberta Health Services confirmed 430 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 132,033. 

13 people passed away, which means 1,866 Albertans have now died from COVID-19. 

307 people are currently in hospital due to COVID. 

In the North Zone, there are 11,520 cases of COVID-19 and 135 people have passed away. 

There are currently 942 active cases in our zone with 184 in Mackenzie County, 57 in the MD of Greenview, 48 in the MD of Peace, 12 in Northern Sunrise County, 11 in Big Lakes County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have three or less active cases. 

AHS is reporting that 125,622 people have recovered from the virus. 

This means that there are currently 4,545 active cases across Alberta. 

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities: 

  • Knowledge Tree Childcare Centre, Valleyview 
  • Mercer Peace River 
  • Peace River Correctional Centre 
  • Points West Living, Peace River 
  • Tolko Industries, High Level 

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face. 

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
