COVID-19 UPDATE: February 23

On February 23, Alberta Health Services confirmed 267 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 131,603.

11 people passed away, which means 1,853 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

326 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 11,415 cases of COVID-19 and 134 people have passed away.

There are currently 875 active cases in our zone with 133 in Mackenzie County, 54 in the MD of Greenview, 45 in the MD of Peace, 13 in Northern Sunrise County, 11 in Big Lakes County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have three or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 125,234 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 4,516 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Knowledge Tree Childcare Centre, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • Points West Living, Peace River
  • Tolko Industries, High Level

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
