COVID-19 UPDATE: February 16

On February 16, Alberta Health Services confirmed 263 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 129,338.

Nine people passed away, which means 1,791 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

365 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 10,939 cases of COVID-19 and 126 people have passed away.

There are currently 737 active cases in our zone with 49 in the MD of Greenview, 38 in Mackenzie County, 37 in the MD of Peace, 27 in Big Lakes County, 16 in Northern Sunrise County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have three or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 122,554 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 4,993 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • Points West Living, Peace River
  • Stone Brook Lodge, Grimshaw
  • Sugarplum Tree Daycare, Peace River
  • Tolko Industries, High Level

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
