COVID-19 UPDATE: December 8

On December 8, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,727 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 72,028. 

Nine people passed away, including two in the northern zone, which means 640 Albertans have now died from COVID-19. 

In the North Zone, there are 4,757 cases of COVID-19 and 51 people have passed away. 

There are currently 1,212 active cases in our zone with 40 in the MD of Peace, 23 in Northern Sunrise County, 21 in the MD of Greenview, 19 in Mackenzie County, 17 in Big Lakes County, while all other jurisdictions in our area have two active cases or less. 

AHS is reporting that 51,000 people have recovered from the virus. 

This means that there are currently 20,388 active cases across Alberta. 

Outbreaks have been declared at the following places: 

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete 
  • Peace River Correctional Facility 

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face. 

It is also recommended you wear a mask if social distancing is not possible.
