COVID-19 UPDATE: December 30

On December 30, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,287 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 100,428.

18 people passed away, which means 1,046 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 6,849 cases of COVID-19 and 66 people have passed away, including one person in the most recent update.

There are currently 1,031 active cases in our zone with 90 in Big Lakes County, 21 in Northern Sunrise County, 20 in the MD of Greenview, 15 in Mackenzie County, 13 in the MD of Peace, six in the MD of Smoky River, five in the MD of Spirit River while all other jurisdictions in our area have one or no active cases.

AHS is reporting that 84,887 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 14,555 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facility:

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete
  • Peace River Correctional Facility

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
