COVID-19 UPDATE: December 29

On December 29, Alberta Health Services confirmed 879 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 99,141.

26 people passed away, which means 1,026 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 6,756 cases of COVID-19 and 65 people have passed away.

There are currently 1,034 active cases in our zone with 79 in Big Lakes County, 20 in the MD of Greenview, 19 in Northern Sunrise County, 15 in Mackenzie County, 13 in the MD of Peace, six in the MD of Smoky River, five in the MD of Spirit River while all other jurisdictions in our area have three or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 83,328 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 14,785 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facility:

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete
  • Peace River Correctional Facility

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
