COVID-19 UPDATE: December 21

On December 21, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,240 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 91,459.

Nine people passed away, which means 860 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

In the North Zone, there are 6,035 cases of COVID-19 and 60 people have passed away, including two in the latest update.

There are currently 1,137 active cases in our zone with 50 in Big Lakes County, 32 in Northern Sunrise County, 24 in the MD of Greenview, 23 in Mackenzie County, 13 in the MD of Peace, nine in the MD of Smoky River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 71,434 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 19,165 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facility:

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors
