COVID-19 UPDATE: December 18

On December 18, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,414 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 87,581.  

25 people passed away, which means 815 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.  

In the North Zone, there are 5,800 cases of COVID-19 and 59 people have passed away, including two in the latest update. 

There are currently 1,201 active cases in our zone with 35 in Big Lakes County, 31 in Northern Sunrise County, 26 in the the MD of Greenview, 23 in the MD of Peace, 22 in Mackenzie County, six in the MD of Smoky River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.  

AHS is reporting that 67,159 people have recovered from the virus.  

This means that there are currently 19,607 active cases across Alberta.  

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facility:  

  • Heimstaed Lodge, LaCrete  

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.
