COVID-19 UPDATE: April 6

On April 6, Alberta Health Services confirmed 931 new cases of COVID-19 over the last four days, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 154,125.

Three people passed away, which means 2,001 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

328 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 14,786 cases of COVID-19 and 149 people have passed away.

There are currently 1,394 active cases in our zone with 57 in Mackenzie County, 26 in the MD of Greenview, 13 in the MD of Peace, 15 in Big Lakes County, 10 in the MD of Fairview, six in Northern Sunrise County, five in the MD of Smoky River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 141,315 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 10,809 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • RCC Simonette Lodge, Valleyview
  • St. Theresa General Hospital, Fort Vermilion

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
