COVID-19 UPDATE: April 12

On April 12, Alberta Health Services confirmed 1,136 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 162,038.

One person passed away, which means 2,018 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

390 people are currently in hospital due to COVID.

In the North Zone, there are 15,873 cases of COVID-19 and 150 people have passed away.

There are currently 1,970 active cases in our zone with 46 in Mackenzie County, 36 Big Lakes County, 24 in the MD of Greenview, 19 in the MD of Peace, 13 in the MD of Fairview, eight in the MD of Smoky River, six in Clear Hills County, five in Northern Sunrise County and the MD of Spirit River, while all other jurisdictions in our area have four or less active cases.

AHS is reporting that 145,171 people have recovered from the virus.

This means that there are currently 14,849 active cases across Alberta.

Outbreaks have been declared at the following facilities:

  • Michels Canada, Valleyview
  • Peace River Correctional Centre
  • RCC Simonette Lodge, Valleyview
  • St. Theresa General Hospital, Fort Vermilion

To help slow spread or ease fear of catching COVID-19, the government recommends washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and to avoid touching the face.

The Government of Alberta also made masks mandatory indoors.
