Construction of the new École des Quatre-Vents in Peace River is underway.

Sylvianne Maisonneuve, the board chair for the Conseil scolaire du Nord-Ouest, says the new school will address issues around accessibility and high school programming.

“There will be classrooms for a shop and cooking classes. There will be a regular sized gym and not a small gym. There will be change rooms for the students, there’s none in this school. We’re also very happy with the contributions of the federal government, we were able to add community spaces so there will be a flexible space to use and a classroom for play school students as well.”

Maisonneuve says the new building will bring a lot to the community.

“Adding new spaces for the school and for the francophone community as well to know that their needs are valued as much as the majority and they will get new spaces just as the other schools got new spaces over the years and we will be able to host functions here. For all the community, it will be a great addition.”

The new school is expected to open for the 2023-24 school year.
