Cleanfarms extends Recycling program (Barry Friesen)

It’s a pilot program that has been successful since its launch in 2019.

The Alberta Ag Plastic. Recycle It Program, put on by Cleanfarms, has been extended until the end of next year.

Since the inception, nearly 3.6 million kilograms of recyclable agricultural plastic has been kept out of landfills in the Province.

This extension marks the second in the last five years, that has helped keep grain bags and twine from not being used again.

Cleanfarms says that recycled grain bags are turned into pellets, which get turned into products like silage plastic, dimensional lumber and agricultural fence posts.

The recycled twine is also pelletized and manufactured into items like greenhouse pots and trays, composite decking, car parts and more.

Officials are hoping this program continues and becomes permanent beyond the pilot status.

The Executive Director of Cleanfarms, is Barry Friesen.
