Over the weekend Netflix live streamed a Chris Rock stand up special called “Selective Outrage” that is still there on the service incase you couldn’t watch the live stream. The highly anticipated special was as such due to “The Slap” occurring about a year ago at the Academy Awards. If you don’t know or heard of “The Slap,” it came after Chris Rock made what appeared to be a harmless joke about Jade Pinkett Smith’s alopecia, in which an enjoyable laughing Will Smith then got angry after a few seconds then proceeded to walk up on stage and slapped the stand up comedian saying “keep my wife’s name out your (CENSORED) mouth.”

Rock’s stand up special is not for kids to watch and tackles a variety of subjects including Meghan Markle’s claims of racism against the royal family, not offending rappers, being a rich father and yes of course “The Slap.”

I found the stand up special to be absolutely hilarious, as I tend to enjoy Chris Rock’s stand up. It was interesting to see Chris Rock talk about Meghan and Harry and went into fairly good detail about everything surrounding “The Slap.” That included how the feud or issues got started between Rock and the Smiths. The title of the special comes from what he calls Will Smith’s “selective outrage” and taking out his marriage issues out on him and not dealing with it in other outlets. If you just want the Rock-Smith drama it comes towards the end of the special.

Despite messing up a joke, in which he acknowledged, Rock was in fine form in his delivery and his brand of stand up. You could see the emotion and passion in the final segment after what looked like he was taking a weight off of his shoulders. If you are into his brand of stand up you will want to watch the “controversial special.”

Final Grade: 9/10
