Border Fire on Hwy 35 fully extinguished

wildfire-flipper-2

The Border wildfire, which ignited in 2023 along the Alberta-Northwest Territories border near Highway 35, has been fully extinguished.

Despite being brought under control in 2023, underground hotspots persisted through the winter, causing the fire to resurface in May 2024.

Throughout the summer of 2024, firefighters from Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and international crews worked tirelessly to suppress the blaze.

Their dedicated efforts continued over the winter and into the spring, culminating in the successful elimination of all remaining hotspots, as confirmed by recent aerial scans.
