BC fires continues to affect Alberta

With the fires still burning in British Columbia, the province has declared that they are in a state of emergency. By issuing this statement, British Columbia will be able to use any necessary resources and will now gain help from the federal government to fight the fires. A state of emergency lasts for 14 days and can be either extended or rescinded beyond that.  As of Tuesday, British Columbia has been dealing with 566 fires and have brought in help from across Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico to fight the fires.  If you are interested in looking into how the fires have been effecting other provinces you can follow the wildfire map we have on our KIX FM website.

The smoke has effected Alberta for the past couple weeks, getting so bad this week that it’s affected the Edmonton Eskimos’ practice and causing their game against the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday to possibly be cancelled.

For much of this week Peace River has been under an air advisory as smoke continues to loom in the air. The smoke can cause poor air quality causing challenges for those who struggle with lung conditions and can reduce visibility.
