The Tim Hortons Athlete of the Month for August is Peace River High School’s own Brice Wilkes. Brice has received the male athlete of the year for grade 12 boys at the PRHS Student Athlete Awards and has attended provincials for cross country running, men’s doubles badminton and track and field.
Brice says being involved with sports has helped shape who he is since he began his athletic endeavors at a young age. He says while he plays a variety of sports, he’s currently focusing on badminton and running.
“I love to play all sports, but competitively I’ve been focusing on running and badminton this year,” says Brice. “In previous years I’ve done boxing and gymnastics.”
When it comes to role models, Brice names his mom, dad, and Bruce Lee.
“A sports role model would be Bruce Lee. All of his philosophies are very inspiring and can be translated into many areas of life. Two of my greatest role models are my mom and my dad – filling me with life lessons to do well in and out of sports.”
Brice’s hard work has resulted in being offered a scholarship from GPRC to join their cross country running and track team in the fall.
“Going to GPRC is definitely going to be the next big chapter for me.”
Congratulations, Brice. Good luck with your scholarship at GPRC and everything that comes after.
