Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate fatal shooting in Cadotte Lake

On September 12, 2021 at 12:51 p.m., the Peace Regional RCMP received a report of a male who arrived at Emergency Medical Services Station in Cadotte Lake suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to receive medical treatment in a Grande Prairie hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation by the Peace Regional RCMP has determined the shooting took place on the Woodland Cree First Nation at a residence in Cadotte Lake.

The Alberta Major Crimes Unit were deployed to take over the rest of the investigation.

On September 14, 2021, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged 31-year-old, Clint Carifelle of Cadotte Lake with first degree murder of 34-year-old, Keith Carifelle from Cadotte Lake.

The two men were known to each other.

Following a judicial hearing, Clint Carifelle was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Peace River Provincial Court on September 27, 2021.

An autopsy was conducted by the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on September 16, 2021.

The matter is now before the courts and no further information will be provided.
