The Grande Prairie Storm will play the Whitecourt Wolverines this weekend as the AJHL begins their exhibition season.

Storm Head Coach and GM Mike Vandekamp says they’re excited to finally get back to playing again.

“We’re in week six here of our extended training camp and practice routine so we’ve been dying to get a game in. Everyone’s excited to be able to put the jersey on here this weekend and take on a different team instead of having to compete with each other all the time.”

Vandekamp returns to the Storm after spending nine seasons in the BCHL coaching in Cowichan Valley and Nanaimo.

He won an AJHL title with Grande Prairie in 2009 and says he likes the look of this year’s team.

“We compete hard, have good speed and some tenacity in our game. Right now we’re just trying to build some structure into our game that will allow us to be a more consistent and difficult opponent every night. We like what we’ve seen so far.”

The exhibition schedule for the Storm goes as follows.

Friday Oct. 9 at Whitecourt
Saturday Oct. 10 vs Whitecourt
Friday Oct. 16 vs Whitecourt
Saturday Oct. 17 at Whitecourt
