The Alberta government has streamlined its Canadian Agricultural Partnership grant process to make it easier for producers and food manufacturers to access funds.

Agriculture and Forestry Minister Devin Dreeshen says this will allow applicants to receive their money faster and they also expanded some of their programs as well.

“Our efficient grain handling program, we’ve actually expanded that program to have air fans and conversion of natural gas from propane or vice-versa on grain dryers, and then two new exciting programs, the farm technology program and the on-farm value added program.”

Devin Dreeshen was on the Trending 55 Hot Seat and says their farm technology program also has some aspects that can help with rural crime.

“There will actually be farm security aspects to this farm tech program. That’s everything from GPS in equipment to trackers of that equipment, remote fuel tank monitors, wireless station motion detectors, even internet boosters out in rural areas.”

Dreeshen says they’ve heard a lot from industry to have more farm technology to compete internationally and help address rural crime.
