Berwyn Council Highlights

berwyn

The Village of Berwyn is moving ahead on several key community initiatives following its latest council meeting.

Council approved a new Protection of Privacy and Privacy Management Program Policy to comply with Alberta’s updated Protection of Privacy Act, which replaced the former FOIP legislation last year. The policy outlines how the Village will manage personal information, handle privacy breaches, and process complaints.

Council also reviewed a draft Municipal Emergency Management Plan. More updates are expected before the plan returns for final review.

A new “Council Roundtable” section will soon be added to regular council meeting agendas, giving councillors space to discuss emerging community issues and future opportunities without immediate formal action.

On traffic safety, council confirmed that speed bumps near parks and playgrounds — especially around Glenmeyer Park — will remain in place. The speed limit on 50 Street will also be reduced to 30 kilometres per hour, and two digital speed readers are expected to be installed along the roadway.

Council also discussed the future of the Berwyn Arena, directing administration to arrange a structural inspection and explore converting the building into a multi-use facility.

And finally, Berwyn council approved a letter supporting regional advocacy efforts for a proposed Northern Alberta Living Allowance aimed at addressing affordability and workforce challenges across northern communities.
