  1. A popular Trade Show begins this weekend with the 23rd annual High Prairie Gun and Sportsmen Show at the Sports Palace, Buchanan Center and Curling Rink.

  2. The Battle River Ag. Society in Manning is looking for the public’s help to get a financial prize for upgrades.
    The Growing Home with BASF promotion is into its final day of voting today, and Chris Graw of the Society says just being nominated is an honour. (Interview in separate story)
  3. Provincial funding is being granted to a francophone organization in Donnelly for roof replacement to their building.
    The Smoky River Historical Society has received over $33,000 from the Community Facilities Enhancement Program.
    The Society will be fundraising the rest of the project.
  4. Alberta’s governing United Conservatives are looking to take another run at redrawing provincial riding boundaries – a move the Opposition NDP calls a cynical backdoor scheme to rig the next general election.
  5. Things are progressing with a possible expansion team in Slave Lake for the NWJHL. Officials say a team President and a GM are in place.
    The League’s AGM is next week, where a vote will take place.
  6. In curling news, Nampa’s Kayla Skrlik has a new team in place for next season.
    The team is Lead Samantha Fisher, Second Sarah Koltun, Third Myla Plett, and Skrlik as the Skip.
  7. The Toronto Blue Jays continue their road-trip tonight in Arizona. Eric Lauer starts for the Jays against Calgary’s Michael Soroka.
  8. A mix of sun and cloud forecasted for this afternoon in the Northwest. Highs afternoon are around 5 degrees, with lows tonight around -5.
    Temperature increase a little on the weekend, and could be in double-digits next week.
