Donnelly Society receives Government Grant

alberta-government-4

A francophone heritage group in northern Alberta is getting a boost to help preserve its history.

The Société historique et généalogique de Smoky River has received more than 33-thousand dollars from the province through the Community Facilities Enhancement Program. The funding will go toward replacing the roof of its documentation centre, which is now 40 years old.

The upgrade is considered critical to protecting the organization’s archives and ensuring the building remains in good condition for years to come.

President Carmen Ewing says the group is grateful for the support, calling it an important step in safeguarding valuable records for the community.

The organization plans to launch a fundraising campaign to cover the remaining costs of the project.
