Northern Sunrise County advises to watch “The Melt”

As temperatures begin to climb, Northern Sunrise County is warning residents to prepare for an increased risk of spring runoff and localized flooding.

Officials say this year’s above-average snowfall could lead to faster-rising water levels compared to typical years, creating potential challenges for property owners, drivers, and rural landowners.

The County is closely monitoring weather patterns, snowpack, and drainage systems. Public Works crews are already clearing culverts, opening drainage channels, and inspecting known problem areas to stay ahead of changing conditions.

Residents can expect increased runoff during warm days, temporary pooling in low-lying areas, muddy gravel roads, and possible flooding where drainage is limited.

To prepare, homeowners are encouraged to clear snow away from foundations, check sump pumps, and ensure culverts and drainage paths on their property are free of debris.

The County is asking residents to report significant flooding, blocked culverts, or hazardous road conditions as soon as possible.

Officials say updates will continue as conditions evolve, emphasizing that safety, property protection, and maintaining roadways remain top priorities during the spring melt.
