A busy January 22 council meeting in the Village of Berwyn saw an approval related to water operations, snow removal report, and participation in the Peace Regional Energy Committee.
Council approved proceeding with a new water operator agreement with the Municipal District of Peace No. 135, which will take effect once the Village’s current agreement with the Town of Grimshaw expires. Administration will provide the Town of Grimshaw with the required 90-day notice of contract termination. Council noted the MD of Peace water operator has extensive experience with Berwyn’s water system and will support a gradual transition of water operations to Village staff. As part of that transition, a member of the Village’s Public Works team will work closely with the MD water operator and is expected to obtain formal certification this spring.
Council also received an update on snow removal efforts following significant snowfall in December. Approximately 400 truckloads of snow were relocated from within the Village to the Tower Park area. Pre-planning is already underway to manage spring melt conditions. Council thanked Public Works staff for their extra time, care, and dedication in maintaining the Village during the extreme winter weather.
Related to winter maintenance, Council requested administration bring forward quotes for potential snow removal equipment purchases. Such equipment would be funded through Local Government Fiscal Framework grant funding.
Council also accepted an invitation for the Village of Berwyn to participate on the Peace Regional Energy Committee. Chief Administrative Officer Jatin Saini will attend quarterly meetings on behalf of the Village and provide regular updates back to Council.
