Alberta Environment and Protected Areas has issued a River Ice Advisory for the Peace River at Dunvegan within the Municipal District of Fairview No. 136. The advisory was put in place after rising water levels were observed over the past 48 hours.
The rising water is the result of several consolidations of newly formed ice cover on the river, which has also impacted a roadway in the area. The ice cover remains unstable, and additional consolidations are possible, which could lead to rapid fluctuations in water levels throughout the Dunvegan area.
The advisory applies to the Peace River as well as surrounding streams and tributaries unless otherwise noted. Residents are being urged to remain cautious near the river and to stay informed as conditions continue to evolve.
The Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 notes residents can contact the MD office during regular operating hours at (780) 835-4903 for updates, more information pertaining to local flood response.
After-hours assistance for urgent matters posing a risk to private property, municipal infrastructure, or public health and safety is available. For response relative to Roads call (780) 835-1711, for Water/Waste Water contact (780) 835-8795.
