The grassroots campaign to save Fairview’s post-secondary campus has reached another step, as organizers urge residents to submit final petition signatures today (December 2) and prepare for a major community town hall later this week.
Petitions—calling for the provincial government to halt the planned closure and commit to a full review of alternatives—must be submitted by the end of the day. Advocacy leaders say every signature will help amplify northern Alberta’s demand for transparency, accountability, and long-term educational stability.
For nearly 75 years, the Fairview campus has been a cornerstone of workforce development across the Peace Country. The institution has provided essential training in trades, agriculture, health care, veterinary sciences, and a wide range of technical programs. Community leaders warn that closing the campus would leave a deep void in regional training capacity, undermine local employment, and weaken economic resilience.
Over the past month, representatives from across the region have been meeting with stakeholders, engaging municipal leaders, gathering resident feedback, and seeking clarity on provincial decision-making. Public sentiment has been overwhelmingly in support of keeping education accessible and preserving programs vital to the regional economy.
A second community town hall will take place this week, where organizers plan to offer updates and outline next steps.

Invitations have been sent to the Premier of Alberta and multiple provincial ministers, including those responsible for Advanced Education, Municipal Affairs, Agriculture, Forestry and Parks, Jobs and the Economy, and Trade and Immigration.
The coalition is calling on the provincial government to:
Pause all closure-related actions until an independent, community-led feasibility study is complete.
Collaborate with regional stakeholders to explore community-owned or community-managed governance models for the campus.
Provide public updates on what actions have been taken—and are currently underway—to keep the Fairview campus open.
Organizers encourage students, staff, business owners, and residents from across the Peace Country to attend Thursday’s town hall, submit remaining petitions, and continue sharing the campaign throughout their networks and online communities.
As the deadline approaches, community leaders remain hopeful that a strong, unified response will push the provincial government to reconsider its path and work with the region toward a sustainable future for the Fairview campus.
