As Alberta’s population continues to grow, the demand for affordable housing has intensified. In response, provincial and federal have jointly committed $ million through the Affordable Housing Partnership Program to construct over 2,300 affordable homes across the province.
Jason Nixon, Alberta’s Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “This commitment is about more than just building housing – it’s about providing safe, affordable homes for Albertans, and the dignity and security that come with them.”
Eleanor Olszewski, federal Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience, highlighted the collaborative effort, noting, “The federal government remains committed to working with the Province of Alberta to accelerate the construction of homes for those who need it most.”
This investment marks the largest single-round funding since the program’s inception in 2022 and is a key component of Alberta’s 10-year Stronger Foundations plan, aiming to support an additional 25,000 affordable households by 2031.
The Affordable Housing Partnership Program continues to accept applications, with the current intake period open until January 31, 2025.
This initiative underscores the commitment of both governments to provide safe, stable, and affordable housing for all Albertans.
