Woodland Cree First Nation Elects Chief and Council

The Woodland Cree First Nation has released the preliminary results of its 2025 Chief and Council election, held on November 17 with polling stations in Cadotte Lake and Edmonton. A total of 534 ballots were cast—438 in Cadotte Lake and 96 in Edmonton.
Isaac Laboucan-Avirom secured the position of Chief with a combined total of 276 votes, defeating Derek Auger, who received 246 votes.
Twenty-three candidates competed for five council seats. According to the preliminary count, the following candidates have been elected to Council:
  • Blaine Auger – 224 votes
  • Lawrence Lamouche Jr. – 190 votes
  • Elvis Thomas – 168 votes
  • John Cardinal Jr. – 166 votes
  • George Merrier Sr. – 149 votes
