In response to the recent 16-day teachers’ strike, the Alberta government has cancelled the January 2026 diploma exams and Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests.
This decision aims to help students and teachers recover lost instructional time.
Students can opt to write the exams in April or June 2026; however, those who choose not to will receive their school-awarded marks as final grades.
The government assures that this cancellation will not impact students’ ability to graduate or pursue post-secondary education.
