Canada Post Strike continues, but meetings took place

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has been on strike for nearly two weeks, protesting government-mandated reforms to Canada Post.

These reforms, announced by Minister Joël Lightbound, include ending door-to-door delivery, closing rural post offices, and shifting to community mailboxes, aiming to address the corporation’s financial losses, which have exceeded $5 billion since 2018.

CUPW argues that these changes threaten jobs and essential services, particularly in rural and Indigenous communities.

The strike has halted mail delivery nationwide, impacting small businesses ahead of the holiday season.

In response, Canada Post has presented new offers to the union, proposing wage increases and part-time positions with benefits.

However, the union remains concerned about job security and service reductions.

Both parties are set to meet with Minister Lightbound to discuss the proposed reforms and contract negotiations, seeking a resolution to the ongoing dispute
