Residents in Peace River are going to have to keep waiting little longer for the rehabilitation work on the old bridge to finally be finished.
Peace River MLA Dan Williams says the province has had to change contractors for the bridge project which has lead to another setback.
“We wanted to make sure that we have the absolute best value for money and safety going forward. The tender is going to be advertised for that RFP coming up this fall, we’re going to have that running by next summer and its going to take 1-2 years of work on that bridge with the new contractor chosen.”
The projected completion for the bridge project, 2027.
Residents and business owners in town have expressed frustrations over how long this project has taken.
Williams says he understands those frustrations but the project will be moving forward.
“We had a contractor that wasn’t up to the job before, they’ve been removed, we’re now getting a new contractor and we’re going to make sure that we do it right this time. I know it’s frustrating. This happens with big projects, especially we saw through COVID with supply chains starting the backing up of this and it culminated in needing to replace the contractor doing the actual construction work. We’re going to get this one right and get it moving forward.”
