  1. Alberta Major Crimes has made an arrest in the weapons complaint on Friday in Driftpile.
    Investigations reveal 32 year-old Blake Francis Giroux of Edmonton faces Manslaughter charges in the death of 29 year-old Brandon Lee Campiou of Driftpile.
  2. Alberta Major Crimes has arrested an individual in relation to the incident at Riverfront Park last Tuesday morning.
    The victim is identified as 35 year-old Anton Vincent Carifelle of McLennan. 25 year-old Kelleo Alook of Peace River is charged Manslaughter, as well as weapons offenses.
  3. Rain has been falling, and temperatures have been cooler over the past few weeks in the Northwest, and that has helped with wildfire efforts.
    At this point one major fire to keep an eye on is the Moody Creek fire, about 30 km northeast of Chateh, which is out-of-control at 4,300 hectares.
    The other blazes being Slims Creek north of Manning, Bison Lake east of Manning, and the Red Earth Complex, are all Being Held. Sousa Creek near Chateh is under control.
  4. The Provincial Government has set aside $4.6 million dollars to improve learning and mental health supports for First Nations students.
    Locally, The Dene Tha First Nation, The Driftpile Cree Nation, The Kapawe’no First Nation, The Little Red River Board of Education, The Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, the Swan River First Nation, The Whitefish Lake Education Authority, and the Woodland Cree First Nation Education Authority, are all benefactors.
  5. Julien Bergeron is the Deputy Fire Chief of Northern Sunrise County. He’s also participating in the Northern Trek, starting today.
    The Trek is a run from Edson to Jasper, while fundraising for the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
  6. Pierre Poilievre is now officially heading back to Ottawa as a Conservative member of Parliament for Alberta.
    The Tory leader will represent the sprawling rural riding of Battle River-Crowfoot after winning a byelection on Monday with more than 80% of the vote.
  7. The Wheatbelt Baseball League champions could be crowned tonight, as the Peace River Stampeders play in Rycroft tonight.
    The completion of Game 4, plus the whole of Game 5, if necessary, will go tonight, 6:45 at JD Park. The Rage lead the series 2-1, and Game 4 is tied at 2-2 in the Top of the 9th inning.
  8. The Toronto Blue Jays play the second of a three-game set in Pittsburgh tonight. Max Scherzer starts for the Jays against Mitch Keller.
    The Jays dropped the opener 5-2 last night.
  9. A mix of sun and cloud is expected for the Northwest today, with highs in the low 20’s.
    The Peace and Big Lakes could see some rain tonight, with lows in the upper single-digits. The rain will stop by the Mackenzie tomorrow, with numbers cooling off to the high teens. It could get warm by the weekend.
