Environmental fieldwork is now underway north of Peace River as Energy Alberta begins early studies for its proposed nuclear power project.
From late July through August, Energy Alberta crews will be conducting environmental field studies in areas 20 to 30 kilometers north of Peace River. These studies support planning for the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project.
Field teams will be gathering data on river and groundwater conditions, wildlife, air and water quality, and cultural land use. Residents may notice boats, survey gear, and passive monitoring devices in the area.
Energy Alberta says the work is being done in partnership with Indigenous Nations, with Indigenous Monitors joining crews in the field to help ensure traditional knowledge and values are integrated.
The studies will help guide project planning and long-term environmental monitoring.
