  1. Police in Fox Lake have issued tickets and seized a vehicle and booze during a traffic stop on Saturday morning.
    The search unveiled two large duffle bags that contained 124 bottles of unopened Vodka, estimated at nearly $10,000.
  2. The Village of Berwyn have reinstalled speed bumps at the original locations in the jurisdiction.
    The aim is to reduce speed and improve safety, especially around areas with children, cyclists, and pedestrians.
  3. The town of Grimshaw has appointed Belinda Russell as their new Interim CAO. She takes over from Brian Allen, who steps aside to take the job as CAO of the MD of Peace.
    Russell has worked in front desk services, taxation, accounts payable, and payroll, and most recently as Municipal Secretary.
  4. Students and teachers are out for the summer, but a legacy at Ecole Heritage in Falher is continuing.
    The Nicole Walliser Award has been created to honour the long-time figure in the francophone education community, and the student athlete of the year.
  5. Millions of new trees are going to be planted across northern Alberta, as part of a project for recovering caribou habitats.
    Rebecca Schulz, the province’s Environment Minister, says over $55 million will be spent over the next six years for this. (Interview in separate story)
  6. Wheatbelt Baseball League tonight… Rycroft is in Manning, the Rage are 7-3, the Mets are 5-4.
  7. MLB… The Toronto Blue Jays continue their four-game set with the Yankees tonight. Jose Berrios starts for the Jays against Will Warren.
  8. NHL News… The NHL, the Players Association, and international officials have officially finalized the deal to send players to the Olympics in Italy.
    The Tournament runs February 11-22.
  9. ICYMI, Free Agency started in the NHL yesterday…
    The Oilers re-signed Evan Bouchard for four years at $10.5 per season. The Oilers also let Corey Perry go to LA, let Connor Brown go to New Jersey, let John Klingberg go to San Jose, traded Viktor Arvidsson to Boston, and signed Andrew Mangiapane for two years at $3.6 Million per season.
    The Oilers currently have just under $3.3 million dollars of Cap space to play with.
  10. The Northwest is in the “Cooling Off” stage of the week, with showers a possibility over the next 48 hours.
    Highs this afternoon will be in the mid 20’s, with lows tonight just above 10.
    Showers are happening tonight in the Big Lakes, 10-20 mm worth tomorrow in the Mackenzie, and tomorrow night in the Peace.
    The weekend is expected to be decent, before warming up again next week.
