The bridge deck rehabilitation in Peace River is one of a number of highway projects that are being worked on in the region.

The province’s transportation minister, Devin Dreeshen, says it’s part of over 100 km of re-paving that will be happening in the area.

“About a quarter of a billion dollars over the next three years, whether it’s bridge, culvert or road projects, just in the peace region. There’s a lot of projects happening in Northern Alberta. When you look at just the northern part of the province, we’re putting in about $1.25 billion over the next three years. There’s a tremendous amount of projects that we want to make sure that they’re designed right and engineered right.”

One of those projects that Dreeshen they want to get right is the new bridge near La Crete.

“Budget ’25 actually had $87 million allocated for the construction of the La Crete bridge. The Tompkins Landing slide repairs are also near there and we have design work as well. We are taking a little bit more time to make sure that we have the right locations and proper pilings going into the bridge. Design work is well underway.”

Dreeshen says the completion of projects of like this will bring a number of benefits for locals travelling around the region and the economy with the resource sector.

Motorists will have to contend with construction zones again, and Dreeshen is urging people to be patient with the important work that is happening.
