The Numb Bum 24-hour motorcycle endurance ice race is a unique event that takes place annually in the Peace Country, weather permitting.
Darryl Haugen has created a documentary to capture the race’s incredible story, which will premiere on February 22 at 2 PM at the community centre theatre in Fairview.
Tickets are priced at $10, with proceeds going to the Ignite North Peace Youth Support Association.
The documentary, which took two years to complete, explores the race’s history, starting from its inception in 1985 on Clairmont Lake and its subsequent move to George Lake near Fairview until 1999.
Originally a motorcycle ice race, it has expanded to include quads and side-by-sides, with teams typically consisting of four people.
The documentary also features an original song by musician Kurt Furtenswerth and his wife Jill Luka, designed to evoke the 80s rock era.
Furtenswerth has been instrumental in organizing the premiere, aiming to utilize the Fairview theatre for more community events.
The race, which began as a fundraiser for Camp Tamarack, has a rich history of community involvement and fundraising for various organizations.
Haugen, who directed, produced, and edited the film, will participate in a Q&A session after the screening.
She is eager to share the documentary with the Peace Country community, highlighting the race’s role in bringing people together during the winter months.
