On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and warmest wishes for a Happy New Year to all our supporters, donors,, volunteers, veterinary partners, and everyone who contributes to the SPCA in any way. Your kindness, love, and unwavering support throughout the year have been invaluable. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are able to continue providing stray, surrendered and abandoned animals with a second chance at finding loving, caring homes. We deeply appreciate each and every one of you!
To the staff of the PRSPCA, your tireless efforts to ensure the shelter animals are healthy, loved, and cared for during their stay with us are truly remarkable. You go above and beyond to find them loving homes, and your dedication does not go unnoticed. Please know how much we deeply value and appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you for all that you do!
2024 was a very busy year for the PRSPCA with ups and down and everything in between.
Several times we were full or over capacity which puts a strain on resources and the staff. Our preliminary numbers are showing that we took in over 200 more animals in 2024 than in 2023!
As we step into 2025, we are thrilled to embark on the next exciting long awaited phase for our shelter – the new facility.
As many of you know, we’ve been working diligently to begin the construction of our new facility. However, we encountered several roadblocks during the demolition of the old shelter, including delays in disconnecting services and obtaining sign-off for our demolition notice application—a process that took nearly six months to complete. While this was a challenging period (as with every month we have been delayed is another month we are paying rent), we are overjoyed to share that our permit was approved in November. In the coming week, we will finally begin demolishing the old building. Although we had hoped to complete this step in December, the frigid temperatures and holiday season caused unavoidable delays.
We would like to extend our thanks to the Town of Peace River for contributing funds to assist us with the demolition. Their support for this much-needed community project is deeply appreciated and has been instrumental in helping us move forward.
The next phase of our project that has delayed progress is the powerline relocation. We continue to work with Atco Electric in keeping this project top of mind. After discussions with several engineers over several months we believe that we have found the person within Atco that is working for our best interest. The expense to relocate the line is quite large ($63,000) but will allow us to maximize the space and enhance the design of the facility.
As this long-awaited project gets underway, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community for your understanding and patience. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way as things progress. We know everyone is just as excited as we are to see the new building become a reality. We will continue to fundraise to complete the inside of the building and will start our brick fundraiser in the coming weeks. Bricks can be purchased and will surround the Joyce Ford Watmore memorial garden out side of the building.
From our President:
I would like to extend a special thank you to the Board of Directors and our dedicated committee volunteers who work tirelessly to keep the business side of the shelter running every day. From fundraising and public relations to planning meetings, events, and ensuring every detail is attended to, your efforts are truly extraordinary.
As a hands-on board, I see firsthand the countless hours you pour into making sure the bills are paid and that the mission and vision of the SPCA are actively promoted within our community. Your commitment and hard work do not go unnoticed, and I am deeply grateful for everything you do. Thank you for your unwavering dedication!
Thank you again to everyone who contributes the shelter in any way – your support—it truly means the world to us!
