  1. The Peace River Fire Department was busy last week. Last Monday, a house fire in the Saddleback neighborhood destroyed a house and detached garage. Three other homes were damaged.
    On Friday, a fire destroyed a home in the Terrace Trailer Park, near the Bridgeview Industrial area. A holiday trailer, vehicles, and two other homes were also damaged.
    No injuries occured, as investigations continue.
  2. A traffic stop in High Level in July has brought forward possession and firearms charges to 27 year-old Corey Tyler Ellsworth.
    Later that same day, police caught up with, and arrested a 28 year-old from Hay River in the Territories, on flight from police and possession charges.
    Both were remanded in custody.
  3. Infrastructure projects are something that Peace River MLA Dan Williams wants to see more of locally.
    Williams says the area has a huge opportunity to “continue moving forward.” (Interview on App)
  4. Jasper residents will be able to start returning home on Friday. All residents and business owners will be able to return when Highway 16 is open to traffic.
    Re-entry is possible because the fire danger is lower, although officials warn the state of local emergency remains in place and the town will likely remain on evacuation alert.
  5. The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. paid $18.4 million in bonuses this year after hundreds of jobs at the public broadcaster were eliminated.
    Documents show CBC/Radio-Canada paid out bonuses to 1,194 employees. More than $3.3 million of that was paid to 45 executives.
  6. The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game set in Anaheim tonight against the Angels. Bowden Francis starts for the Jays against Davis Daniel.
  7. Athletes are continuing to touch down on Canadian soil after the most successful non-boycotted Olympics ever.
    Canada finished with 27 medals in Paris, 9 Gold, 7 Silver and 11 Bronze.
    The Olympic world now focuses on the upcoming winter games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy in 18 months.
  8. The summer heat is continuing in the Northwest with numbers nearing, or exceeding 30 degrees. Lows are comfortable at night, except in the Mackenzie with digits in the mid-teens.
    Daytime highs will cool down a little come mid-week, and you could see some showers on Tuesday night in the Peace.
