- Fires are heating up, along with the temperatures in the Northwest.
A small blaze has ignited north of Manning, but firefighters have knocked down the inferno to Being Held status.
The Semo Complex Fires north of John D’or Prairie, Garden River and Fox Lake, as well as the Amber River Complex blazes Northwest of Chateh continue to be Out of Control. The good news is that each fire is not a threat to a community at this time. - Town Councils meet today. Birch Hills, Clear Hills, the County of Northern Lights, The MD’s of Fairview, Greenview, and Peace, and the town of High Prairie are today.
- Little Red River Cree Nation issued a wildfire alert on Monday afternoon for residents of the Garden River area.
According to the alert, a 12-hour evacuation notice will be given. A wildfire is burning out of control 10 kilometres north of Highway 58. - Slave Lake RCMP have a youth in trouble after a report of a Bear Spray incident on Saturday. Police caught the suspect at the Slave Lake Fair Grounds on the east side.
Informants say the individual discharged bear spray among fair-goers and fled. The person faces assault and mischief charges. - A prominent Alberta company has agreed to pay $3 million in fines for misleading the province’s utilities watchdog about its costs in two separate projects.
ATCO Electric has also agreed to refund $4 million in recompense for unearned rate increases, a deal that now goes before the Alberta Utilities Commission for approval. - Wheatbelt Baseball League tonight… The regular season ends with Grimshaw in Sexsmith. - The Toronto Blue Jays continue their west-coast roadtrip tonight, starting a three-game set in San Fransisco. Yusei Kikuchi starts for the Jays against Blake Snell.
- Soccer championships… Canada plays Argentina in the semi-finals of the Copa America tonight in East Rutherford New Jersey.
Meanwhile, Spain plays France this afternoon in the semis of the Euorpean Soccer Championships. - Heat warnings are continuing for at least the next 36 hours in the Northwest. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 30’s this afternoon.
Lows tonight might be tough, as numbers will be in the mid to high teens. Digits will start to cool down a little by Thursday, but may heat back up early next week.
