  1. Because of a recent spike in gang-related activity, proactive patrols were conducted just after the May-long weekend in John D’or Prairie.
    A traffic stop yielded an arrest of 33 year-old Brandon Lee Cardinal of the settlement for possession of Cocaine. Cardinal is due in court in Fort Vermilion in July.
  2. A missing person case in Little Buffalo has ended tragically. 21 year-old Dominic Laboucan has been located deceased.
    Laboucan was reported missing on May 15th, after being last seen walking toward the bushes behind his home two days prior.
  3. Food Banks around the region are pushing this Spring and Summer for donations. Usually, Food Drives happen around the Christmas holidays, but this Spring and Summer are needing help to keep the shelves stocked.
    As well, the Food Cupboards in the Hamlets in Big Lakes County are becoming bare, and need donations.
  4. Former mayor Lorne Mann passed away yesterday.
    The Town says “Mann served our community with dedication as a Councillor, Deputy Mayor, and Mayor. His contributions to Peace River were significant and lasting.”
  5. Alberta’s government is limiting legislature debate time to pass four controversial bills, a tactic the Opposition says will run roughshod over the democratic process.
    With the spring sitting set to wrap up this week, the government is passing motions to limit debate to one hour at each stage of bills.
  6. The fire that prompted the evacuation of several neighbourhoods in Fort McMurray earlier in May was classified as under control.
    Crews are working on the fireline looking for and extinguishing any hot spots within the perimeter. A total of 151 firefighters and 15 helicopters are assigned to the fire.
  7. Canadian figure-skating icon Tessa Virtue is expecting her first child
    The announcement came in a batch of vacation photos with husband and Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly on social media.
  8. No games in the Wheatbelt Baseball League tonight. There was a game scheduled as Peace River was to play in Rycroft, but that game will be made up on June 26.
  9. NHL playoffs tonight… Game 4 Dallas is in Edmonton. The Stars lead 2-1.
  10. The Toronto Blue Jays play the finale of sa three-game set in Chicago, against the White Sox. Alec Manoah starts for the Jays against Chris Flexen.
  11. The record book of Major League Baseball has changed to include records of more than 2,300 players from the Negro Leagues.
    An updated of MLB’s database will become public before the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants play a tribute game on June 20 in Birmingham, Alabama.
  12. Rain is the order of the day this afternoon in Northwestern Alberta. The wind in the Peace and the Big lakes will be up as well.
    Highs this afternoon are only in the low to mid teens, with lows tonight around 7 or 8. A chance of showers for the rest of the week, but skies will clear off for the weekend.
