- Police in the Peace Region have five in custody on a laundry list of charges.
Last week, traffic stops occurred in Grimshaw where the five (Two from Grimshaw, two from Peace River, one from MD of Peace) were arrested. - A scheduled Power Outage happened in Fox Lake today, to repair insulators that were damaged by smoke from the Paskwa fire from last season.
An outage is also happening on the Whitefish Lake First Nation today until 4pm. - The Parent Council at St. Thomas More School in Fairview is looking into being in the Holy Family Catholic Regional School Division for the next school year.
The school is currently under the umbrella of the Grande Prairie and District Catholic School Division. - The Provincial Government has earmarked money to women’s shelters in the Peace Region.
$5 million dollars is going to more beds and new spaces for women’s shelters in Grande Prairie and Fairview. This is added to $5 million already invested in the programs. - The best of the best was on display for the past two weeks, now organizers are getting set for the finale.
The North Peace Performing Arts Festival holds its Grande Concert on Saturday at the Athabasca Hall. (Joan Blench interview on App) - Gas prices are set to rise in Alberta next month, with the provincial government fully reinstating its fuel tax following a drop in oil prices.
Finance Minister Nate Horner says the fuel tax for gas and diesel will be 13 cents per litre starting April 1, an increase of four cents. - Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s attempt to pass a vote of non-confidence failed Thursday.
The manoeuvre was an escalation of the Opposition’s pollution-pricing pushback, buoyed by the resistance to the April 1 carbon price increase. - The federal government recorded a budgetary deficit of $25.7 billion as of the end of January for the current fiscal year.
The Finance Department says the deficit between April and January compared with a $6.4-billion deficit during the same period a year earlier. - NWJHL Finals this weekend… Fort St. John is in La Crete, Game 4 is tonight, Game 5 if nec., is tomorrow, Game 6 if nec., is Sunday. The Lumber Barons lead 3-0.
- NPHL Finals this weekend… Falher is at Spirit River tomorrow, the Pirates lead the series 3-2, after a 4-1 win last night.
- AJHL quarter-finals this weekend… Grande Prairie is at Calgary, Game 5 is tonight in Calgary, Game 6 is Sunday in Grande Prairie. The Series is tied 2-2.
- Four games in the NHL tonight… Carolina is in Washington, Pittsburgh is in Dallas, Columbus is in Colorado, and Seattle is in Arizona.
- Sunshine and warmer temps are in store heading into this weekend. Highs will be just below zero today, but will be chilly at night as lows get down to between -10 and -20.
Digits will get to, or above zero during the weekend, and possibly as high as 10 degrees in the Peace on Tuesday.
