No Plans For Classroom Cellphone Bans

There are currently no plans to ban cell phones in Alberta classrooms, even though other provinces have put in such rules.

New rules in Quebec means students can no longer use cellphones in the classroom unless approved by a teacher for educational purposes.

It makes them the second province to implement such a measure, after Ontario’s legislation in 2019.

Alberta does not have a blanket policy, but it allows local teachers and school boards, including those in our region, to create their own rules.

The Alberta Teachers’ Association says it wants to be involved in any future changes to legislation.
