Todd Loewen has a number of items on his to-do list as the Province’s Minister of Forestry and Parks.
He says his mandate letter from Premier Danielle Smith includes a number commitments, including the development of an incentive program for the forestry industry.
“Basically what it is, is it will allow the forest industry to do value added products right here in Alberta. It’s a good way to create more jobs here and get more products made right here in Alberta, rather than shipping out so much of the raw product and having it processed somewhere else.”
The minister has also been tasked with designing a ministry-specific job-attraction strategy that raises awareness for young Albertans.
When it comes to the Parks side of the portfolio, Loewen says they want to have more than 900 new campsites and several new locations for comfort camping over the next 10 years.
“We want to make sure that we have places to go for Albertans for when they travel around Alberta and also for people who come from out of province. It’s going to be good for the people of Alberta to be able to enjoy the great outdoors all across this province. By developing more campsites in an environmentally responsible way, then we’ll have more opportunities for Albertans to enjoy the wide variety of things that we have in Alberta to enjoy.”
