May 24 2023 – The fire remains quiet around Town. We did receive between 2-4mm of rain last night which will help to slow down the fire activity today. It is still very dry out there but we are feeling secure here in Town. We continue to demobilize our structure protection sprinklers and hope to have those down by Friday May 26. Our fire crew is shrinking as the emergency to the Town is lifting. We will continue with our patrols and assisting Atco with their work by actioning hot spots near their work areas. Atco is working hard to restore power to our community which will be the last check needed to begin re-entry.
While the fire hazard is lifting, we are still without power. Working with Atco, we are releasing our re-entry plan today with the best estimates we can put together so that you have more notice to plan for your families. Please keep in mind that we are putting these estimates together with the best information available today. We tried to have the re-entry conversation before, but the fire had other plans, and may do so again.
With this information, we are hoping for a general re-entry for our Town to be on June 2nd, 2023. As stated, this may change and we will continue providing updates as the work progresses. Our re-entry plan as well as some other useful information including advice about speaking with your insurance providers and things to look out for when you return home after this event have been uploaded to our website www.rainbowlake.ca.
As we will not be back in Town in time for the Alberta Election Day, we are encouraging all of our residents to take advantage this week to get out and vote at the advance polling stations. You can do this anywhere in Alberta, but if you are in the High Level area, they are setup in room 110 at the Town of High Level Town Office between 9am and 8pm. This will be available up until May 27th, 2023. If you do not have identification with you due to the evacuation, please call 1-877-422-8683 and they can email your voter identification to get out there and cast your ballot.
Please take advantage of the information on www.rainbowlake.ca and stay safe.
