People living in the Paddle Prairie and Keg River area that are passionate about future successes for the next generation of Indigenous youth can run to be a Ward 1 Trustee in the Northland School Division.

The NSD Board of Trustees is having a by-election for Ward 1’s vacant trustee position and the nomination period is open up until March 28, 2022.

Dr. Nancy Spencer-Poitras, Superintendent of the Northland School Division says the Board of Trustees is vital. “The Board is responsible for things like setting school division priorities, developing the policies and ensuring residents are informed on how they can get involved with their child’s education.” Dr. Spencer-Poitras notes school trustees advocate on behalf of their school communities on important topics that affect education.

Through the pandemic, Dr. Spencer-Poitras says “the support of a strong board like I have has been so crucial in dealing with Covid, running for the school board trustee gives people the opportunity to make a difference in education.” Dr. Spencer-Poitras adds individuals that are passionate about education and their community are great candidates for the NSD Board of Trustees.

Individuals interested in wanting to make a difference for Indigenous youth can submit their nomination papers at Paddle Prairie School or at the Northland School Division central office located at 9809 77th Avenue, Peace River up until noon on March 28, 2022.

If more than one nomination is received, an election will take place on Monday, April 25, 2022. For all the details and forms to run for the vacant seat in Ward 1, click here.
