Current Vice Principal at Ecole Springfield Elementary School, Mrs. Gail McNabb will be taking over the highest position in the coming school year. Mrs. McNabb has worked in the Peace River School Division for a combined 20+ years, filling several different roles over the course of her career.
Mrs. McNabb received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta in 1984. She has held multiple different positions in the PRSD in leadership and management roles. McNabb was a Divisional Learning Coach for seven years with PRSD prior to becoming Vice Principal at Ecole Springfield in 2017.
The Trending 55 Newsroom had the chance to speak with McNabb and congratulate her on the promotion. McNabb says she’s very excited for the role, as she was Assistant Principal at Springfield in 2003-05. “I actually started my teaching career here at Springfield Elementary, so it’s kinda coming full circle.” McNabb noted when she was a learning coach; getting to know the division in a different angle and building relationships in the schools was one of her strong suits.
When asked about her favourite part of her job McNabb says “I love K-4 schools, that’s where my heart lies. Getting to know the kids is half the fun, they’re just such wonderful little human beings.” Building relationships with the children is the most important part McNabb says.
Being a part of the administration in the school, McNabb says directing teachers on the right path to learning has been more challenging this year with COVID-19. “Trying to get the kids where we think they should be for literacy and numeracy, is what one of our focuses over the next few years… just getting that core instruction.” McNabb talked about the transition to online learning this past year and says children are probably the most versatile out of all the people affected by it, rather the adults are seeing most of the problems and challenges to it.
With becoming the Principal at Ecole Springfield, NcNabb says it’s not job that’s done alone. “I have a wonderful office team! It’s a team effort; it’s not just the person sitting in the Principal’s chair that runs the school.” McNabb believes the attitude and direction the Principal gives their staff is really important as everyone has to work as a unit.
As Mrs. Gail McNabb is becoming Principal at the Ecole Springfield Elementary School with the 2021-22 school year, with her current role as Vice Principal is currently vacant. “If anyone’s wanting to work in a wonderful school, apply!” McNabb noted.
